The transition between seasons is always a time of change, especially for your wardrobe. It’s tempting to buy an entirely new fall wardrobe for a total refresh, but you don’t need to. Buying a bunch of new clothes each season is unnecessary and definitely not the most sustainable option. There are plenty of ways to re-style your current wardrobe to make it feel new and accommodate the change in weather. Here are 4 of my favorite ways to do it:
Keep it simple
Purchasing simple, staple pieces will ensure that you can effortlessly transition your wardrobe between seasons. Classic styles like t-shirts, tank tops, blouses, denim, and trousers are super versatile. Investing in high-quality basics is a must. If you know you’re going to wear something for a long time, it’s almost always worth the slightly higher price tag. A white tank top can be paired with pretty much anything. For this in-between-season-weather, I chose to pair one with a pair of pleated culottes. Here’s one of my favorite tanks from Reformation.

Stick to neutral tones
This one’s easy for me because I pretty much only wear black, white, grey, and some form of beige. Keeping most of your wardrobe within a neutral color palette ensures that everything matches with… well everything. You’ll have no problem transitioning between seasons with a a wardrobe full of high quality, neutral basics. That’s not to say your closet has to be boring. Bright statement pieces, subtle patterns, or contemporary styling are great ways to stay excited about your clothes – which leads to my next point…
Study the styling
I always find myself looking at off-duty models and street style looks for fashion inspiration. When you really study those outfits though, it isn’t necessarily the individual items that stand out – it’s the styling. If I find an outfit on Instagram I absolutely love, I try to find a way to use the clothes already in my closet to get the same look. If that’s not an option, I look to thrift stores or sustainable brands. And finally, if I still can’t find what I’m looking for, I’ll look at the exact brand featured in the post. This is also a great way to stay within budget because many times the looks I see on Instagram are the price of my rent.
For this look, I paired a tight cropped tank with wide leg trousers – a look I’ve been seeing everywhere on Instagram. The looks on Instagram usually feature I.AM.GIA or another trendy label, but I decided to go the more eco-friendly and wallet friendly route.

Embrace the weather confused look
Growing up in Colorado, the weather confused look was a common sight. People wearing chunky knits with shorts or barely-there tanks with wool trousers. I used to think this was weird (especially when Uggs were involved), but I’ve learned to embrace this look. As the seasons change, weather can be unpredictable, so wearing a sweater with denim shorts or a tank top with trousers is actually a great idea. And of course layering with a light jacket is always smart.
I think the main point is that you don’t need to replace your entire wardrobe just because the seasons are changing. A little update can be fun, but make sure you’re putting the pieces you already have to good use. There’s almost always a different way to style something or a unique combination of items that you haven’t thought of before.
