So… I moved… to New York City. Those of you following me on insta probably already know, but I recently moved to New York for work after graduation. I thought I would write a little bit about my move, adapting to change, and just like adulting in general.
For a really long time now, probably like 3ish years, I’ve been wanting to move to NYC. I’ve always been interested in the fashion industry and after deciding to study Apparel Design and Merchandising in school, I knew NY or LA would be the place for me. I ultimately chose NY because I felt the fashion-related jobs in the city provided a great career opportunity and I have this obsession with Brooklyn (duh).
Moving across the country is obviously a pretty big deal. I had to pack up most of my belongings and say bye to my friends and family to move to one of the biggest cities in the world where I know nobody. And when I say it like that, it sounds a little overwhelming. But, I’ve always been very independent and I get bored really easily. I knew I didn’t want to live in the same placemy whole life and I had experience moving cross-country (I went to a school in Pennsylvania my freshman year). It was scary, and at times I didn’t really wanna go. I had moments where I thought “why I am I doing this.” I could easily find a job in Colorado, live near my family (and my dogs), and be comfortable. But, I’m a huge believer in the (cliché) quote “life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” If you don’t challenge yourself and put yourself in uncomfortable positions, you’re never going to grow as an individual. So, I packed up and moved… and I really like it!
I’ve only been here for about three weeks, but so far it’s really great. I’m currently working at a trend forecasting agency four days a week and doing digital marketing and textile design for an accessories company once a week. I’m keeping busy, and maybe that’s why I like it (I don’t have time to think about what the hell I’m doing with my life haha). I spend my weeks working and my weekends exploring. I’ll keep you guys updated on my adventures (or you can follow my insta for more frequent updates). I also plan on posting travel diaries to my blog – which will include my favorite restaurants, cafes, activities, etc. in New York. Looking forward to what’s to come!
P.S. I’m writing this at 2 am so we’ll see if it makes any sense in the morning. (Update: It did).
