The art of underdressing is the art of trying without actually trying. It is the art of looking like you just “threw something on,” while still appearing put-together.

The art of underdressing is an art that is easily mastered. Here are two simple rules of underdressing successfully:

1. Stick to the basics: Basic t-shirts, dresses, and denim are your friend. Keep the outfit simple by wearing solid colors and quality garments.

2. Add texture: This can be done by layering a few basics or adding an accessory. Texture adds a little something extra to the outfit without overcomplicating it. It also breaks up the otherwise solid/monochromatic pieces of the outfit. Throwing on a choker or wrapping a jacket around your waste is a great way of adding texture and interest.
