The art of underdressing is the art of trying without actually trying. It is the art of looking like you just “threw something on,” while still appearing put-together.
The art of underdressing is an art that is easily mastered. Here are two simple rules of underdressing successfully:
1. Stick to the basics: Basic t-shirts, dresses, and denim are your friend. Keep the outfit simple by wearing solid colors and quality garments.
2. Add texture: This can be done by layering a few basics or adding an accessory. Texture adds a little something extra to the outfit without overcomplicating it. It also breaks up the otherwise solid/monochromatic pieces of the outfit. Throwing on a choker or wrapping a jacket around your waste is a great way of adding texture and interest.
I get some of my favorite, quality basics from Aritzia. Aritzia is a Canadian clothing brand that has published a pretty good amount of information on their social responsibility policy. So, although they are not considered a sustainable company, they are taking steps toward becoming a more socially responsible company by supporting their workers and reducing their environmental footprint. The best part is that Aritzia is currently having one of their biggest sales! Check it out here!
